This kit is designed to show the intricate balance and relationships between different levels of the food chain and the importance of these levels to humans and our environment.
Students study the different relationships within an environment, the importance of each organism, how energy is transferred, and the delicate balance in the environment of a food web.
Producers, consumers, herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, predators, prey, decomposition, energy flow, food cycles, food chains, food webs, and food pyramids are all discussed.
Differentiated to teach food chain (Grade 3 ? 5) and food web (Grade 6 ? 8) related topics.
Students observe pond water food webs and soil habitat food chains, model the decomposition of plant matter, and design their own food chains and food webs. Includes instructions for games, experiments, and activities. Required but not included: outdoor soil, turnip, and moldy food.
Microscopes recommended.
